PETERBOROUGH WEATHERWATCH COMMENT:(Published Thursday 16th October)

Despite what you may have read In some national newspapers earlier this week, The MET Office have NOT, and are NOT, forecasting any imminent 'Cold/Snowy' spell and neither is there going to be a Hurricane 'hitting' the UK. The supposed 'Cold' Spell Is the regular yearly mantra from a chap who wants to drive folk to his website no doubt for advertising revenue. As for the 'Hurricane' story, Yes, Hurricane Gonzalo does exist, but by the time it gets to our shores, if indeed it does, it will be the remnants of that Hurricane, but will NOT be a Hurricane. The waters around the UK are NOT warm enough to drive or sustain a Hurricane. I advise all of you to disregard ANY front page weather scaremonger stories, particularly those of, but not exclusively, the Express and  Mail and please get your weather information from reputable organisations like the Met Office, Weatherquest, MeteoGroup. If reading the screaming headlines, check the whole article and see who they are quoting as these stories almost all of the time, will NOT be from any of the reputable Weather organisations. If in doubt, contact any of those I have mentioned and ask them what is and what isn’t true!

For Hourly Local Conditions and Weather Updates through the day

HEADLINE:- Clear Spells - Becoming Cloudier - Isolated Shower Risk Afternoon - Becoming VERY Breezy Into And Through Early Hours And Through Tuesday

Sunrise at 07:35- Sunset at 17:56 - Tomorrow - Sunrise 07:37 - Sunset 17:53 - Next Day - Sunrise 07:39 - Sunset 17:51

MONDAY 20th October @ 06:50: A clear, relatively mild start across the forecast area. Early clear/bright spells will give way to cloudier skies through the morning to leave a generally cloudy day with likely only brief bright spells through the day. Risk of an isolated shower/spits&spots through the afternoon. Temperatures peaking at 15°C(57°F) or 16°C(61°F). Wind - Breezy at times with gust potential to 25mph in places and generally from the WSW/SW

EVENING & OVERNIGHT:- Remaining cloudy into and through the evening. Late evening/towards midnight, it becomes increasingly breezy as the depression which contains the remnants of ex hurricane Gonzalo track across to the North of the UK, and some outbreaks of rain expected to reach the forecast area through the early hours. Amounts of rain not expected to be exceptional, perhaps up to 10mm in places. Gust potential to 30mph by dawn. Temperatures falling to 10°C or 11°C.

OCT 1991-2005 - Av 10.9°C - Max 14.7°C - Min 7.1°C - CET 10.6°C

OUTLOOK :. Tuesday start windy with some outbreaks of rain through the early morning. Gust potential 35mph to 45mph perhaps increases 40mph to 50mph through the morning, so potential for some damaging gusts in places. Perhaps drier for a time and some bright spells developing, but the threat of further showers into/through the afternoon. Temperatures rather 'academic' really, peaking at 13°C through the morning before falling a degree or so into the afternoon, but the strength of the wind making it feel several degrees cooler than actual air temperature.* - *Forecast subject to revision later today.
