* MEDIA 'HOTTEST SUMMER' SPECULATION *

You may have read in various newspapers, both national and local, speculating that the we are heading for the 'hottest summer' for over 100 years'. Please treat these stories with the contempt they deserve. There is no merit in them at all, and the source of them is not from the Met Office, or any other reputable Weather Forecasting organisation. They are sourced from one person, who has little or seemingly, no Meteorological knowledge. The articles are syndicated across the media, hence why they make their way all papers. The articles wiil use phrases like 'forecasters', 'expert(s)'. Believe me, it is not a 'forecaster', or an 'expert' with any proven track record of forecast accuracy dishing out this nonsense. Of course, we can expect some warm weather during the coming months, it will be Summer after all!! We may even have a hot spell or two, but no one can forecast with any great certainty for the next three months as to extent of any warm/hot spells, if indeed there will be any. The Met Office, the UK's official national forecaster produce a 3month guide for Contingency Planners, that gives indications/probabilities of Temperature and Rainfall, using a variety of data sources. It is NOT a forecast in the same way that a daily or weekly forecast is given. It states a range of probability of certain conditions over a range of time. MONDAY 30TH MAY UPDATE @07:30:-

A mild,breezy and overcast start across the forecast area. Looks set to remain largely cloudy through the first part of the morning, with only brief brighter spells if any. Perhaps some brighter spells for a time mid/late morning, but the general cloudy theme looks set to continue into and through the afternoon. Temperatures struggling under the mainly cloudy skies, peaking at 15°C or 16°C. Where any lengthier brighter spells, temperatures could peak at 18°C or 19°C. * FORECAST CONFIDENCE LOW TO MODERATE

WIND:-

A breezy day with gust potential 25mph+ in places and generally from the North, making it feel degrees cooler than actual air temperature where exposed to the breeze

Tuesday looks set to start cloudy, breezy and wet, with outbreaks of rain across the forecast area. Area of rain tends to move away West through the morning, to leave some patchy rain in places by the afternoon and maybe some brigher spells. Temperatures not moving much through the day, peaking at 13°C

Breezy through the day with gust potential 25mph+ across the forecast area and from the North, again making it feel cooler than actual air temperature
